Call for Application: Doctoral Researcher in Theatre/Drama Studies

Moi University is seeking to fill the position of Doctoral Researcher in Theatre/Drama Studies from 1 October 2026 or at the earliest possible date thereafter. The position is offered for a fixed term of 48 months.
The position is part of the research project “Translating Brazilian Development Ideas in Africa” (TRABRADIA), funded by the Cluster of Excellence EXC 2052 Africa Multiple at University of Bayreuth. The project examines how practices of translation shape South–South development cooperation, focusing on Brazil–Africa relations across various fields.
The doctoral researcher will investigate the local adaptation of Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed in Uganda through the analytical lens of translation and Theatre for Development.
Areas of Responsibility
The successful candidate will be expected to:
• Conduct a qualitative case study on the translation and adaptation of Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed in Uganda within the framework of South–South development cooperation
• Carry out qualitative fieldwork in Uganda, including ethnographic observation and key-informant interviews
• Undertake archival and library-based data collection and analysis
• Participate in project meetings, academic conferences, and workshops
• Contribute to project publications
• Write a thesis based on the project
